Requesting Repeat Medication


What is repeat medication?

Many people need to take medication each day to manage a health condition

Regular medications (medication taken every day/at regular intervals) can be set up on a repeat prescribing system

This allows you to order medication without seeing the doctor each time

If you are using the repeat prescribing system, we ask that you have a medication review once a year. This can be done over the telephone and can be done by a Doctor or one of the Pharmacists based at our surgery. This medication review enables us to safely monitor the medications you take.

Prescriptions are sent electronically to a local chemist of your choice. You do not need to collect the prescription from the surgery

How do I order my repeat medications?

There are four ways to order your medication:

  • By posting a request slip through the repeat prescription letter box outside the building
  • Ask your pharmacist to order it for you
  • By post with SAE
  • Order it online via Patient Access, please speak to reception for further details if you are not set up for this

During the Coronavirus Pandemic we are minimising the number of  people we let into the building.

Please try to avoid phoning so that we can keep our lines available for patients needing urgent medical attention

What medication does not qualify as “repeat medication”

  • Medication for which repeat prescribing has not been agreed with your GP (such as medication given for a short illness)

When might we flag up a concern with a medication request?

    • If medication  is requested and you are overdue your annual medication review
    • If regular blood tests are required to ensure the tablets are not causing side effects
